The annual awards recognition luncheon for Douglas County Senior Volunteers was held last Wednesday.
Information from the Douglas County Senior Services Department said the event was held at the Winston Community Center. Volunteers were recognized for the hours they give to make a difference in the lives of seniors.
Those honored were from the Douglas County Senior Nutritional Services Program, including Meals on Wheels and dining sites in Sutherlin, Glendale, Winston, Glide, Yoncalla and Riddle. A luncheon to honor volunteers from the Reedsport area will be held later in the spring.
Wednesday’s event included a performance by the Umpqua Singers, and a luau inspired meal and dessert. County Commissioner Tom Kress thanked the volunteers while commissioners Tim Freeman and Chris Boice served the meal to those being honored.
The nutritional services program served 72,000 meals at 7 sites in Douglas County in the past year. Volunteers donated nearly 19,000 hours of service in 2019.
