Roseburg Police arrested a California man on charges related to human trafficking early Thursday morning, after he was found with three female juveniles missing from a youth group home in the Seattle, Washington area.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of the Roseburg Police said just before 4:00 a.m. officers observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the vicinity of the Roseburg Regional Airport. Officers contacted 41-year Maurice Hurth of Suisun City, along with three minor females that were in a rental vehicle. Eichenbusch said it was discovered that the man had multiple warrants out for his arrest out of three California communities. After resisting briefly, Hurth was detained for those warrants.
The juveniles were taken into protective custody and were later transferred to the Douglas County Juvenile Shelter.
Hurth was initially charged with three counts each of trafficking in persons, compelling prostitution and custodial interference in the first degree. He was also held for a count of encouraging child sex abuse in the first degree. More charges were added Thursday afternoon including three counts each of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, subjecting another to involuntary servitude, and second-degree kidnapping.
Hurth remains in the Douglas County Jail as the investigation continues.
