WINSTON MAN ARRESTED AFTER POLICE CHASE

A Winston man was detained following a police chase on Monday night.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at 7:00 p.m. a deputy attempted to stop the 30-year old man who was driving near the intersection of Edwards Street and Gregory Street in Winston.
The report said the driver accelerated away and turned onto Gregory. The driver reportedly accelerated to about 30 miles per hour until he reached his driveway in the 100 block of the street. He was taken into custody and his passenger was initially detained.
The report said 30-year old Tyler Phillips allegedly had a snort tube in his pocket that he claimed was from opiate use. He also had a warrant out for his arrest. A search of the vehicle yielded an unidentified white pill and another snort tube.
Phillips was charged with a felony count of attempting to elude police, failure to carry and present a license and for the warrant. He was initially detained on $54,750 bail.
