A Glendale woman was jailed on Saturday, accused of menacing a child.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said on Saturday morning at approximately 11:40 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Willis Avenue in Glendale for a report that the woman had barricaded herself in a room with a five-year old child, and with a sledge hammer.
O’Dell said deputies arrived and determined that 34-year old Naomi Ellis was in the bedroom with the child. The child could be heard screaming for help, so deputies forced their way through a barricaded door into the bedroom.
O’Dell said Ellis was holding the child with one hand and had the hammer above the child’s head with the other hand. She allegedly refused to comply with deputies’ orders to drop the hammer, at which point they were able to physically overtake her. O’Dell said Ellis reportedly continued to fight with deputies at which point a taser device was deployed. At that point, deputies were able to remove the child and take the woman into custody.
Ellis was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of menacing, resisting arrest, harassment, reckless endangering, and for second degree disorderly conduct. After arraignment on Monday, she was held on $15,000 bail.
O’Dell said the child was unharmed in the incident.
