The investigation into Thursday’s alleged threat targeting Winston Middle School and Douglas High School is now a criminal investigation being pursued by the Winston Police Department, according to a release from the Winston-Dillard School District.
On Thursday, Superintendent Kevin Miller said the Winston PD had received a report from a community member that a specific person made a threat directed to the two schools. Miller said law enforcement had contacted the accused person and begun an investigation. He said police had not been able to substantiate that a threat had been made but advised the accused person to stay away from all the schools in the district.
The latest release said “in a continuing effort to protect our students and staff we will pursue action against any convicted perpetrator(s) to the full extent the law allows”. The release said the district appreciates the strong support from Police Chief Sarti and School Resource Officer Vanatta, “in their tireless effort to hold those accountable that choose to threaten our school community”.
No further information has been released by either Winston PD or the school district.
