Timber Unity will have a rally in opposition to proposed cap and trade legislation, on Thursday at the Oregon State Capital in Salem.
A large group of truck convoys plus other vehicles are expected to come from all over the state.
Activities will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the steps of the Capital. Public speeches by people representing affected industries, policy experts, Timber Unity Association board members, and lawmakers will start at 10:00 a.m.
Over two dozen speeches are scheduled with the concluding speech coming from Roseburg area State Senator Dallas Heard.
After the public speeches, participants are encouraged to discuss their concerns with lawmakers, and attend the Cap and Trade hearing at 3:00 p.m. where Timber Unity Association board members will present to members of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
Board member Angelita Sanchez said that SB 1530, the proposed Cap and Trade plan, is moving way too fast with amendments to keep up with all the changes. She said as long as the final bill impacts food, fuel, and utility prices for all Oregonians, the group is going to remain in opposition.
Officials with the Oregon Department of Transportation said the event may impact traffic on Interstate Five in southern Oregon early in the morning, and again early in the evening.
Hear an interview with State Representative Gary Leif, who will talk about what’s happening during the rally, live from Salem at 12:30 p.m. on Inside Douglas County on News Radio 1240 KQEN.
