There is an increased police presence at schools in the Winston-Dillard School District Thursday as a reported threat is being investigated.
Superintendent Kevin Miller said late Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning, the Winston Police Department received a report from a community member that a specific person made a threat directed towards Winston Middle School and Douglas High School. Miller said law enforcement contacted the accused person and investigated the matter but could not substantiate that a threat had been made. Miller said the person was advised to stay away from all school campuses in the district pending the outcome of the investigation.
Miller said the district has implemented a response consistent with its Crisis Management Plan. He said the district’s main concern is protecting the safety and welfare of its students and staff.
Anyone with information concerning this alleged threat is asked to contact Winston Police at 679-8706 or the Winston-Dillard School District Office at 679-3000.
