Applications are still being accepted for the Citizens Police Academy.
Fourteen sessions take place between early April and mid-June. A release from the Roseburg Police Department said the course is designed to provide citizens with an inside look at the world of law enforcement. Classes are normally held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday nights. A few classes happen on Saturday and one event is scheduled for Sunday.
Classes are usually taught by RPD officers or by deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The course is free but due to the high demand and limited space, those signing up are ask to commit to attending most of the classes.
Topics include the hiring process and training, patrol procedures, crisis intervention, police K9s, the psychological impact of officer involved shootings, narcotics investigations, criminal investigations and much more.
To apply, contact the Roseburg Police Department. Email prodpio@cityofroseburg.org.for more information.
