A motorist apparently fell asleep and careened off the roadway on Thursday afternoon.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said shortly before 1:00 p.m. the 74-year old Roseburg man was driving a pickup on Garden Valley Road, just west of Roseburg, when the accident took place. His vehicle struck a mailbox and landed in a yard. The driver did not have an obvious injury but complained of pain. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center to be evaluated. He was treated and released.
The report said there were no signs of intoxicants or distractions. The pickup had to be towed from the scene.
