The Roseburg VA Health Care System was recently awarded accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
A VA release said that CARF is the international “independent, non-profit accreditor of health and human services”.
The accreditation applies to the Roseburg campus’ Residential Treatment programs for Adult Alcohol and Other Drugs/Addictions and Adult Mental Health. In addition, it is for the Employee Development Services and Services Coordination at the Eugene Downtown Clinic.
CARF awarded RVAHCS a three-year accreditation decision, which the release said reflects that the Roseburg VA has demonstrated conformance to the standards, according to Shanda Singleton, a Registered Nurse and Deputy Chief of Quality Management with the Roseburg VA.
The release said the recognition from CARF also serves to reinforce the local VA’s strategic planning and goal of serving veterans first. A veteran-centric, community-partnered high reliability organization is the baseline for success and a starting point, not an end goal, according to Keith Allen, director of the RVAHCS.
Allen said the local goals align with those of VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. He referenced comments made by Wilkie during a recent interview on News Radio 1240 KQEN where Wilkie said the goal should be to place the veterans need above everything else. Allen said the Roseburg facility is “on the right track with where the VA is headed as an administration”.
