Closures continue on three roads in the High Cascades of southern Oregon.
Gary Leaming of the Oregon Department of Transportation said the highways will remain closed to the public until conditions improve. Leaming said trees need to be moved off the road and the highways have to be plowed.
A 42-mile section of Oregon 138E is closed from Dry Creek to the Junction with U.S. Highway 97. Leaming said the road is open to the Tokatee Ranger Station, but only for employees.
Also shut down is Oregon 62, the Crater Lake Highway, from Prospect northwest to the boundary of Crater Lake National Park. The 20-mile section of highway has been closed since Monday afternoon.
Oregon 230, the West Diamond Lake Highway, has been closed since late Sunday. At least 100 trees had fallen across the road since early Monday. Leaming said it will take several days to get the 24-mile road between Union Creek and the Diamond Lake junction with Oregon 138 back open.
Leaming said snow, wind, and falling trees continue to be a hazard for the crews working to clear these areas.
The closures complicate travel in the region, with motorists having few options for getting to and from central Oregon and around parts of southern Oregon as well.
