A Winter Weather Advisory for higher elevations in central Douglas County and a Winter Storm Warning for Crater Lake, Diamond Lake and surrounding areas are in effect.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said numerous cold, wet weather systems will continue to push through the area over the next several days. Colder air is expected to arrive with each sequential wave. That means snow levels will steadily lower.
For central Douglas County, the Advisory is in place from 4:00 a.m. Monday through 10:00 a.m. Tuesday above 2,000 feet. Four to six inches of snow is expected at that elevation and above. That includes Tiller and the Interstate Five passes south of Canyonville.
For Crater Lake, Diamond Lake and all the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains, the Warning continues through 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Heavy snow is expected with additional accumulations of two to three feet. Higher accumulations are possible in some locations. Winds are expected to gust as high as 55 miles per hour over exposed terrains.
Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible in some areas. In the mountain areas, heavy blowing snow is expected to significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds will bring down trees and power outages are possible.
