A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the Southern and South-Central Oregon Cascades, the Siskiyou Mountains, and surrounding areas beginning later on Friday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said heavy snow is possible with accumulations of 1 to 2 feet possible in some areas. Winds could gust as high as 40 miles per hour. The Watch includes all passes over the Cascades.
Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. Strong winds combining with heavy snow at times could cause tree damage and possible downed power lines. Motorists should stock an emergency kit with tire chains, a flashlight, batteries, blankets, food, water and medications.
The Winter Storm Watch will be in place from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.
