Two transients were jailed on stolen vehicle and drug charges by The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday.
A DCSO report said just before 8:00 a.m. a deputy attempted to contact two people who were allegedly moving property from one vehicle to another on Curtin Park Road in north Douglas County.
The report said that 36-year old Deanna Boyer saw the deputy and walked away from the scene. The deputy talked with 18-year old Austen Ward who allegedly gave out false information several times. The man also walked off and met up with the woman, and the pair started walking towards the freeway.
The report said the deputy noted that both steering columns had been destroyed and suspected that both sedans were stolen. Both suspects were detained a short distance away. Ward eventually gave the deputy his real name and volunteered that he was in possession of methamphetamine.
Additional deputies came to the scene and took the pair back to the vehicles at the park. During the course of the investigation the woman was also allegedly found to be in possession of meth and admitted to stealing one of the cars a few days earlier. The owner of the other vehicle was contacted by Eugene Police and had not realized her car had been stolen.
Boyer and Ward were both initially charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of meth. Boyer was also held for a warrant. They were detained without bail.
