A 44-year old man was jailed for a robbery, an assault and attempting to elude police on Saturday.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just after 3:00 a.m., a deputy was dispatched to Mercy Medical Center regarding a reported assault that had occurred earlier. The victim said on Friday night she had been involved in a verbal argument with John Dane over a saw he wanted which she had ordered, but had not yet arrived. The argument escalated to the point that the suspect allegedly slashed at her with a knife then held it to her throat. He then reportedly punched her in the side of the head numerous times causing injuries. Dane then allegedly told the victim to sign her car over to him. She gave him the key under duress and he left, according to the report.
Deputies checked the victim’s residence and found neither the suspect nor the vehicle there. Dane was later involved in a pursuit with Oregon State Police where he was taken into custody.
Charges include first degree robbery, attempting to elude police in a vehicle and on foot, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, 4th degree assault, menacing and for a probation violation. Dane was detained without bail.
