K9 CAPTURES FUGITIVE ON RIVERBANK

December 27, 2019 9:15 a.m.
Roseburg Police K9 Nike captured a fugitive next to the South Umpqua River on Thursday.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of the Roseburg Police said the K9 and his handler were called out at about 1:40 p.m. to assist in tracking a wanted man who had fled from deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office about a half hour earlier. 29-year old Trevor Hollenbeck of Dillard had several warrants for his arrest and had been wanted since 2018.

Eichenbusch said during the incident Nike tracked for approximately a mile and a half, going through blackberries and brush and in the South Umpqua River in the Dillard area. After crawling through about 80 yards of blackberries and brush, Nike found Hollenbeck concealed in the riverbank, covered in brush and a layer of dirt. Eichenbusch said the suspect refused to come out, so Nike made a biting capture at about 2:35 p.m. and held Hollenbeck until the suspect was placed in handcuffs.
Hollenbeck was treated for minor injuries and taken to jail. He was charged with a failure to appear citation and for a parole violation and remains detained without bail.
