RANGER LED SNOWSHOE WALKS CONTINUE AT CRATER LAKE

December 26, 2019 3:35 a.m.
Ranger led snowshoe walks continue at Crater Lake National Park.
Marsha McCabe at the Crater Lake Visitor Center said the walks take place on Saturdays, Sundays and most holidays through April 26th. They are also being offered daily from Thursday through January 5th and again from March 20th through March 29th during spring break. Snowshoes are provided free of charge and no previous snowshoeing experience is necessary.
McCabe said walks start at 1:00 p.m., last two hours and cover 1 to 2 miles of moderate-to-strenuous terrain. Routes vary, but most walks begin at Rim Village and explore the forests and meadows along the rim of the lake. McCabe said Crater Lake is one of the snowiest inhabited places in America, receiving an average of 43 feet of snow per year.
Space on each tour is limited and advance reservations are required. For more information and to sign up, call the park’s visitors center at 541-594-3100. It is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Organized groups may be able to arrange for a separate tour, staff permitting. There is no cost for the walk, except for the park entrance fee of $15. Participants must be at least eight years of age and should come prepared with warm clothing and water-resistant footwear.
