A Drain woman was jailed Monday in connection with the theft of gas.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said a property owner had earlier reported the ongoing theft of gas from next to his shop on South Cedar Street in Drain. After putting in new cameras a vehicle was caught on camera pulling up to the shop. The report said a single female got out and sat two gas cans and a hose next to the building.
At about 3:45 a.m. the property owner called to advise that a woman was again siphoning gas from a vehicle. Deputies reportedly spotted the woman in the act of siphoning gas. The suspect led deputies on a short foot pursuit before being taken into custody.
37-year old Crystal Claypool admitted to the crime according to the report. She also said she had stolen gas another time, and had also stolen a pair of bolt cutters. The property owner said the suspect had been seen on his security camera entering four different vehicles on the property. The report said the bolt cutters were later recovered from the suspect’s residence.
Claypool was charged with four counts of unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle, two counts of third-degree theft, for unlawful possession of methamphetamine and for a probation violation. She was detained on $35,000 bail.
