Skeletal remains found next to Interstate Five near West Harvard in Roseburg last year have been identified as a Myrtle Creek man.
Captain Tim Fox of Oregon State Police said DNA testing has determined the remains are those of Scott Evenson, who would have been about 44 years old at the time they were discovered. Fox told News Radio 1240 KQEN that Evenson had been reported missing at some point in the past on a Facebook post, but never to police.

On June 6, 2018, workers with the Oregon Department of Transportation were performing maintenance operations at about 8:00 am. when the remains were found. OSP detectives and troopers along with Douglas County Medical Examiner Craig Kinney responded to the scene. Kinney confirmed that the remains were human.
Lieutenant Steve Mitchell of OSP said a nearly full skull was found. It was located next to a concrete barrier separating the freeway from landscaping just west of the northbound off-ramp. Search and Rescue personnel from DCSO conducted a search of the area that day but no additional remains were found.
Fox said all other aspects of the case including the manner of death, and how long the remains had been located where they were found, are still under investigation.
Evenson is listed on the Douglas County Jail website as having been arrested 32 times between 2007 and June of 2015.
OSP is asking that anyone with information about Evenson, between 2015 and 2018, contact Detective Tina Nibblett at 440-3334 or Detective Michael Tabor at 440-3315.
