COMMERCIAL VEHICLE FLIPS, SENDING ROLLS OF PAPER DOWN AN EMBANKMENT

The driver was hurt when a commercial vehicle crashed Thursday night along Interstate Five near the southern base of Roberts Mountain, sending rolls of paper down an embankment and damaging a home.
A report from Oregon State Police said at 11:00 p.m. the 60-year old driver lost control of his rig for unknown reasons. The truck crashed into the right-side cement barrier and then the trailer flipped over the barrier, tearing itself apart in the process. The load was large rolls of paper which rolled down the steep embankment and onto private property. The report said the rolls caused considerable damage to the shop, carport, and front and back deck of the home. The homeowner was home but was not injured.
The paper rolls caused damage to Roberts Mountain Road as well. Douglas County Public Works Department was notified regarding the damage.
The report said the driver was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition according to a hospital spokesperson. He was cited for careless driving.
