A Camas Valley man was jailed for strangulation and a drug charge on Friday afternoon.
Information from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said 40-year old Raymond Sassmen had gone to a residence in Tenmile and got into a verbal argument with a female victim regarding another man. The report said that Sassmen got mad, took the female to the ground and put his hand over her mouth to prevent her from breathing.
He was contacted in Tenmile and admitted that there had been an argument but said that was all that happened. Sassmen was arrested and allegedly had over six grams of methamphetamine in his possession.
He was initially charged with unlawful possession of meth, and violation of a release agreement in addition to the strangulation charge. He was detained on $16,250 dollars bail. Additional charges have since been added and bail has been raised to $50,000.
