FRIDAY FREEWAY TRAFFIC TIED UP BY WRECKS

December 16, 2019 3:20 a.m.
Southbound freeway traffic on Interstate Five was tied up by multiple wrecks on Friday afternoon.
A report from Oregon State Police said problems began shortly before 4:00 p.m. While vehicles had stopped for an earlier accident in the area of the fairgrounds exit, a vehicle operated by a 23-year old Roseburg woman came upon two of the vehicles and crashed into them. The woman was cited for careless driving and for driving while suspended.
About 25 minutes later, a pickup in the same area that was slowing for the traffic ahead, was rear ended by a sedan. The second vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene. The driver of that vehicle, a 25-year old woman from Riddle, was cited for driving while suspended and driving uninsured.
Southbound traffic in the area of the wrecks, was backed up around four miles at one point. Rain had been falling at the time the accidents took place.
