A driver in a stolen vehicle escaped police pursuit early Wednesday morning.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just after 12:30 a.m. a deputy saw a vehicle in the parking lot of Taco Bell in Green. A check indicated that it had been stolen. The deputy followed the vehicle onto southbound Interstate Five until it took the exit to Oregon Highways 99 and 42. He then attempted to stop it but the driver failed to yield and a short pursuit ensued until it got back onto the freeway, this time heading south in the northbound lanes. The report said the vehicle turned around at the Myrtle Creek exit.
The deputy had stopped two miles earlier and re-initiated the pursuit when the vehicle came by. The vehicle took the exit to Highway’s 99 and 42 once again. The chase led to Highway 42 where there was a large patch of fog near Strickland Canyon Road. The deputy lost sight of the vehicle. Units continued to check the area, but the vehicle was not found.
