A Riddle woman was arrested Thursday for alleged sex crimes against a juvenile.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said deputies served a search warrant at the home of 36-year old Rheta Melvin. He said they had started an investigation after learning that Melvin had sexual contact with a teenage male. O’Dell said the woman reportedly began messaging the juvenile and exchanging photographs of a sexual nature through a social media platform. The report said Melvin and the juvenile met and had sexual contact.
Melvin was charged with using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, online sexual corruption of a child in the first degree, for third degree counts of sodomy and rape and for contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor.
O’Dell said deputies believe that there could be additional witnesses or juveniles who had contact with Melvin. Anyone with information is asked to call DCSO at 440-4471.
Melvin was released from custody on Saturday.
