Seven organizations have received grants for Douglas County projects from the Oregon Community Foundation.
An OCF release said their Board of Directors recently approved the funds, which total nearly $135,000.
*The Family Development Center was given $32,000 to add a parent-child interactive therapy program to its relief nursery services. The money will help parents of children up to age 8 with the behavioral and emotional disorders their child has.
*The Oregon Business Council Charitable Institute, based in Portland, received $30,000 for the Blue Zones Project to implement an approach to improving wellbeing in Roseburg and the surrounding areas that is based on community healing efforts that began as a result of the 2015 tragedy at Umpqua Community College.
*Sutherlin Library was given $20,250 to support the expansion of library services and programs and increase public computer capacity. The program will also stabilize funding for the library that serves Sutherlin and surrounding rural communities.
*Ecology in Classrooms and Outdoors, based in Portland, received $20,000 for continued funding to absorb and enhance the Siuslaw Stream Team. That is a natural resource-focused STEM learning program which serves low-income students annually in Reedsport. Students in Florence and Mapleton are also served by the program.
*Glide Booster Club was given $15,000 to renovate the Glide School District athletic track for use by K-12 students and the general public.
*Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians received $13,000 to purchase furnishings and equipment for the larger, remodeled Expanding Horizons Youth Center in Myrtle Creek. Students in grades 4-12 get afterschool academic support and mentoring.
*Friends of the Roseburg Library received $4,500 to implement the Dolly Parton Imagination Library book giveaway program for children up to age 4. Participating children receive regular deliveries of books to enhance early literacy.
The grants were among nearly $10 million distributed statewide. Nonprofits in urban, rural and suburban communities received more than 460 awards.
