LIONS CLUB CHRISTMAS CANDY SALE UNDERWAY

December 4, 2019 3:45 a.m.
The Roseburg Lion’s Club has their Christmas Candy Sale underway.
The annual event features See’s Candy and is held in the Lion’s trailer in the northwest corner of the parking lot at Sherm’s Thunderbird on Stewart Parkway in Roseburg. The club has been selling the candy for over 35 years.
A release from the group said that 100 percent of the profits from candy sales are used for the club’s projects to assist people in the community. Over the years, the group has donated to help local sight and hearing recipients, various youth organizations, community projects, cancer research and assistance, scholarships to Umpqua Community College, flags for first graders and more. The release from the club said that providing sight and hearing assistance to the most vulnerable members of the community continues to be the primary mission of the Lions.
Monies were spent this past year to purchase special eye equipment which is used to test visual acuity for children. This past fall, the group assisted in screening over 2,300 children at local schools in collaboration with the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.
Residents can also bring used glasses to the candy trailer. Several members of the club just returned from visiting a town in Mexico as part of a Lions Mission Health and Vision Clinic where over 2,100 people were assisted with glasses and eye care.
The candy trailer is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. through December 24th or until the candy sells out.
