Three people were taken to hospitals following a two-vehicle wreck late Tuesday afternoon.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said dispatchers received a report of the crash on Garden Valley Road near Melrose Road just after 4:45 p.m.
O’Dell said when deputies arrived, they learned that a sedan driven by Roseburg resident 59-year old Mary O’Connell, attempted to make a left-hand turn from Garden Valley Road onto Melrose Road. O’Connell had pulled into the path of an oncoming Jeep driven by 20-year old Luis Sanchez of Roseburg. The Jeep rolled several times before coming to rest in a dirt median. Sanchez and his passenger, 19-year old Avry Hansen, also of Roseburg, were both critically injured in the crash and were taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment before being transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield. Sanchez is listed in critical condition while Hansen is listed in serious condition at last check according to a hospital spokesperson. O’Connell was also taken to Mercy for evaluation.
O’Dell said the crash is still under investigation and deputies are seeking witnesses to the wreck. Anyone who may have information is asked to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 440-4471.
Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor.
