The former executive director of the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association has pled guilty to theft.
Information from the group said its annual financial review was conducted earlier this year and it was discovered that inappropriate expenditures had been made by John Bishop. Following a more detailed records examination, OSSA reported the matter to the Oregon Department of Justice who conducted a criminal investigation resulting in the charges.
On Friday in Marion County Circuit Court, Bishop pled guilty to theft in the first degree. He received a sentence that included 24 months on probation, 180 hours of community service, restitution to OSSA in the amount of $13,000 and revocation of his Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, law enforcement officer’s certification.
Bishop, age 57, lives in Sublimity, and retired as Curry County Sheriff in 2014.
