WINTER STORM WATCH COMING TO HIGHER ELEVATIONS

November 24, 2019 6:20 a.m.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning above 2,500 feet in central Douglas County and surrounding areas.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said there is significant snowfall potential from Tuesday into Tuesday night.
The Urgent Winter Weather message said there is a general consensus that the bulk of the snow will fall Tuesday morning into Tuesday night, then gradually decrease heading into Wednesday morning. While the largest travel impacts are expected in northern California they could extend into portions of southern Oregon as well, especially for mountain passes and other higher elevations.
Heavy snow with accumulations of 6 to 16 inches are possible and winds could gust to 50 miles per hour. Roadways including the Tiller-Trail Highway, and highways 62 and 140 are likely to be impacted. The Watch area includes Josephine and Jackson counties, and eastern Curry County.
Forecasters said travel in those areas could be very difficult. Drivers at higher elevations should plan on snow covered and slippery roads, along with low visibilities and heavy snow.
Motorists should carry an emergency kit with tire chains, a flashlight, batteries, blankets, food, water and medications.
