A man is in jail after a high-speed chase on Wednesday morning but his identity is not yet known.
A report from the Myrtle Creek Police said at about 2:25 a.m. an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for multiple traffic violations near the corner of Third and Main in Myrtle Creek. The car sped off and headed north on Interstate Five at speeds between 95 and 120 miles per hour. The vehicle left the freeway at the south Roseburg exit and headed into downtown Roseburg. The report said the vehicle went into oncoming traffic on Pine Street at about 80 miles per hour. The pursuit was terminated at that point.
The suspect vehicle continued north to near Log Cabin Grocery Store on Northeast Stephens, where the driver got out and exited on foot. Officers located the suspect and he was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. The man would not identify himself and was lodged in the jail. As of last check, the suspect has continued to be uncooperative with jail staff and is identified only as “John Doe” on the jail webpage. Initial charges included attempting to elude police in a vehicle and on foot, reckless driving, reckless endangering and for unlawful possession of meth.
Myrtle Creek Police was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and by departments in Winston and Roseburg.
