An Oregon State Police trooper was arrested on drunk driving charges after a wreck on Sunday afternoon.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 5:20 p.m. deputies were called to a reported accident in the area of Colonial Road and Melrose Road west of Roseburg. The caller reported the driver had crashed the vehicle, then left the scene in another vehicle. Fire personnel arrived prior to the deputies and said the driver had returned.
The report said deputies found a 1985 Ford Mustang which had sustained heavy damage when it went off the roadway and into a fence.
The driver was identified as 49-year old Robert Gorman of Roseburg. The report said deputies conducted an investigation and determined that Gorman was impaired at the time of the crash. He was taken into custody and transported to the jail where he was booked and released on charges of DUII-alcohol and for failure to perform the duties of a driver-property damage.
Captain Tim Fox from OSP said Senior Trooper Gorman has been employed by the department for 20 years. Fox said Gorman is currently on administrative leave.
