A Sutherlin woman fell, in two different ways Friday, and had to be rescued after being injured while hiking at Smith Rock State Park in central Oregon.
A report from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said at about 1:40 p.m. a call came in that a hiker had slipped and fallen on top of Misery Ridge. The report said the injury was non-life-threatening but left 48-year old Jennifer Roth immobilized and stranded.

A deputy and 13 Search and Rescue volunteers responded to assist. Redmond Fire and Rescue also went to the scene and were the first to make contact with Roth, tending to her injuries until DCSO units could arrive.

Roth was transported down the Misery Ridge Trail on a wheeled litter. She was treated at an urgent care facility in Redmond. Roth told News Radio 1240 KQEN that she broke her ankle in two places and also broke her foot.

Roth told KQEN the fall happened only twenty minutes after she had gotten engaged! Roth said she and now fiancé Jess Miller had hiked about two-thirds the way up Misery Ridge Trail when he proposed. Then they continued their hike to the top of the trail when the accident happened.
Roth said she must have fallen “really hard” for Miller.
