VETERANS DAY HOLIDAY MONDAY

November 11, 2019 3:40 a.m.
Monday is Veterans Day and there are a number of closures.
Federal, state, county and city offices are shuttered around Douglas County. Banks are closed and regular mail will not be delivered. Schools are closed and Utrans buses will not operate.
Veterans Day, also referred to as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, is also celebrated in other parts of the world and marks the anniversary of the end of World War I. It formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when Armistice with Germany went into effect. Armistice Day was observed on November 11th in the United States until 1954 when evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday.
The Douglas County Veterans Day parade, billed as “Oregon’s greatest Veterans Day parade”, will begin at 11:00 a.m. in downtown Roseburg. The route goes from the Roseburg Public Library, down Jackson to Lane, then to Main and to the Douglas County Courthouse, where it concludes.
