A single vehicle accident claimed the life of an 84-year old man on Saturday in Douglas County.
Information from Oregon State Police said at approximately 2:45 p.m. troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a wreck on Highway 38, approximately ten miles west of Elkton. A preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup operated by John Norlin of Roseburg was traveling on the highway when for unknown reasons it left the roadway and stuck a tree.
Norlin sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. One lane of Highway 38 was closed for about four hours after the crash.
Troopers with OSP were assisted by the Scottsburg Fire Department, the Oregon Department of Transportation, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
