MERCY FOUNDATION TO HOST TECHNOLOGY AWARENESS PRESENTATION

November 7, 2019 9:30 a.m.
The Mercy Foundation will host a technology awareness presentation for Myrtle Creek Elementary 5th graders next Thursday.
A release from the South Umpqua School District said the purpose of the presentation is to inform students about the positives and risks that come with having access to social media and technology. Several topics will include anonymous strangers online, sexting, online harassment and bullying.
The presentation will be hosted by Violence Prevention Specialist Marion Kotowski. She also works with the Douglas County Human Trafficking Task Force and the Up2UsNow Child Abuse Prevention Coalition.
Myrtle Creek Elementary School Principal Ariel Mainz said that mobile technology devices like cellphones and iPads are common these days and children “need to know how to be safe while using them”.
The presentation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Those who want to know more about what will be covered can attend an informative meeting Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Myrtle Creek Elementary Library.
