A Partnership Launch between the Oregon Department of Human Services and the non-profit group Every Child will take place Thursday night.
A release said the goal is to mobilize an unprecedented number of foster families in Douglas County. Right now, over 400 Douglas County children spent at least one day in foster care, and the community lacks the needed number of foster homes to ensure children are placed with the most strategic family for their safety and well-being, according to the release.
It said that ECHO Every Child is a public/private community effort to encourage community members to love, care for, and support vulnerable children and families in partnership with DHS.
Every Child first launched in Jackson, Josephine and Lane County in 2016. Efforts in Marion, Polk and Yamhill County began in 2017. The organization hopes to expand to all counties in Oregon in the next three years.
The launch event will run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the DHS offices on West Harvard. The evening will begin with remarks from Roseburg Mayor Larry Rich. The keynote speaker will be Jessica Lowry Burnett who will share her foster child experience. A number of others will speak as well.
