COUNTY OFFICES TO CLOSE FOR 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF VETERANS HOLIDAY

November 7, 2019 3:40 a.m.
All Douglas County government offices will be closed on Monday for the 100th anniversary of a Veterans Day holiday.
A release from Douglas County Commissioners said Veterans Day, also referred to as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, is also celebrated in other parts of the world and marks the anniversary of the end of World War I, when Armistice with Germany went into effect. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day on November 11th, 1919. The United States observed Armistice Day on November 11th, until it evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954.
The Veterans Day parade will take place on Monday in downtown Roseburg, starting at 11:00 a.m.
