A father was arrested on Sunday, accused of abandoning a child at River Forks Park.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department said just before 4:00 p.m. dispatchers received a call indicating that a five-year old child had been left at the park. O’Dell said deputies responded and learned that the father had allegedly been trying to give away another child, a ten-month old infant which was in his vehicle, before leaving with that child and leaving the older child at the park.
O’Dell said a deputy safely recovered the five-year old. Detectives were called out and an Amber Alert plan was being activated. As the incident progressed, the infant was located at a residence in the 1200 block of Northwest Hicks in Roseburg. The father was identified as 30-year old Bryant Noe Garcia.
Garcia was arrested and charged with child abandonment, which is a Class C felony, and second-degree child neglect, a Class A misdemeanor. He was initially detained on $106,250 bail.
O’Dell said the children were physically uninjured and were safely reunited with their mother.
