VEHICLE VERSUS BICYCLE ACCIDENT SENDS RIDER TO HOSPITAL

A rider went to the hospital following a vehicle versus bicycle accident on Thursday afternoon.
Information from the Roseburg Police said just after 5:00 p.m. a 46-year old bicyclist was at the southwest corner of the intersection leading to Walmart on Stewart Parkway waiting to cross the crosswalk. A 26-year old motorist was in the left-hand turn lane preparing to turn left onto Stewart Parkway as he was leaving Walmart. When the motorist’s light turned green, he entered the crosswalk as the rider was passing through it.
The cyclist was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of a possible hip fracture. He was in serious condition at last check according to a hospital spokesperson. The motorist was cited for failure to yield to a bicyclist.
