Nearly one fourth of voters have cast a ballot in the Special Election, with the deadline to return ballots only a few days away.
Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis said as of Thursday, 24.8 percent of ballots have been turned in for the elections taking place in the Tenmile Rural Fire District and in the City of Reedsport. Loomis said this is a small special election with less than 5,000 voters between the two districts combined.
Voters in the Tenmile Rural Fire District are considering whether to pass a local option levy to pay for a full-time Fire Chief and Paramedic. If approved, property owners will pay 75 cents per one thousand dollars of assessed value for five years.
In the City of Reedsport, voters will decide whether to make a change to the City Charter. Proponents want to amend it to remove the restriction on utility adjustments not exceeding three percent annually.
Voters can turn in their ballot at drop boxes at Winston City Hall, at the County Annex in Reedsport, and in the parking lot just east of the Roseburg Public Library. They can also be taken to the Clerk’s Office in room 124 of the courthouse.
Ballots for the Special Election must be turned in by next Tuesday, November 5th at 8:00 p.m.
