CASA of Douglas County has added Development Specialist Rachael Hanohano to aid in their efforts to help abused children that are in foster care.
A release from CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, said the role of the Development Specialist is to increase community awareness about the need and support of children in foster care. The release said when children are removed from their homes through the legal system, they are entrusted to CASA to assist them.
Valerie Trout, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said in Douglas County the demand for CASA’s services has grown exponentially. She said as of this year alone, there have been more than 700 children in care with 50% of them awaiting an assigned CASA. Trout said “we are very fortunate to have Rachael join our organization”. Trout said she brings a “much-needed skill set along with an obvious passion for our mission”.
Hanohano said “moving to a smaller community with an opportunity to make a positive impact is very important”. She said she is committed to the welfare of children and CASA’s mission. Hanohano said “we have a lot of good work to do and I am excited to be on board”.
