Firefighters with the City of Roseburg Fire Department and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 are helping to fight the wildfires in California.
Each district sent 3 personnel and a type 6 brush engine.
A total of 15 strike teams from around Oregon headed south on Sunday. 9 of the teams are working at the Kincade Fire in Sonoma County. As of Monday evening, that blaze had grown to over 74,000 acres and forced the evacuation of approximately 180,000 people. 6 teams went to the smaller Burris Fire in Mendocino County.
According to RFD Chief Gary Garrisi and Fire District No. 2 Chief Rob Bullock, both groups are tied in with a Klamath County team that is dealing with the fires.
State Fire Marshal Jim Walker said 75 fire engines and over 270 firefighters were assembled in a matter of hours. Walker said more than 60 agencies in Oregon answered California’s call for help.
RFD Chief Garrisi said local firefighters could be deployed for 14 days.
