PRESCRIBED BURNING ON BLM MANAGED LANDS

October 29, 2019 3:25 a.m.
The Bureau of Land Management is conducting prescribed burns throughout the Roseburg area on BLM-administered lands.
Cheyne Rossbach said the fires will continue as conditions permit through the spring of next year. He said the fires are to reduce activity fuels generated by timber harvest operations, where fuels have been piled and covered at landings and along roadsides in multiple locations.
The BLM release said prescribed fires are planned fires that are commonly referred to as “controlled burns”. The release said it is one of the most important tools used to reduce wildfire risk to communities, restore habitats, and to achieve land management objectives. Fire management specialists consider objectives such as public and employee safety, weather, topography fuels, size, the precise environmental actions under which it will burn, and conditions under which it may be suppressed, according to the release.
The prescribed burns will include approximately 22 project areas through the district, and a total of 37 days of prescribed burning.
