SUTHERLIN SCHOOL DISTRICT WITH LISTENING SESSION WEDNESDAY NIGHT

October 23, 2019 3:45 a.m.
Sutherlin School District is holding a community listening session Wednesday night to help determine how best to spend funds available to the district through the Student Success Act.
Superintendent Terry Prestianni said he was grateful for the community’s input last week and is looking forward to the second session. It will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sutherlin East Primary School and is open to students, families and community members.
The district release said the Student Success Act was signed into law this past spring and is a “historic and much needed investment in K-12 schools”. School districts are required to apply for funds from the Student Investment Account. Districts must demonstrate engagement of the community in a needs assessment process prior to applying for funds. The needs assessment includes the district’s existing Continuous Improvement Plan and an expanded public engagement process with multiple and diverse stakeholders.
Sutherlin School District will be able to access an indeterminate amount of funds through the state application process. Funds can be used for reducing class size, increasing instructional time, addressing health and safety needs and ensuring a well-rounded education.
