CYCLIST HOSPITALIZED AFTER COLLISION WITH CAR

A cyclist was hospitalized after a collision between his bike and a passenger car on Thursday night.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at just after 9:30 p.m. a vehicle driven by a 27-year old Roseburg woman was southbound in the 4700 block of Northeast Stephens. An electrically propelled bicycle operated by a 25-year old Oakland man was northbound. The two vehicles hit head on near Log Cabin Grocery. The cyclist landed on the hood of the car and then went through the windshield.
The report said several witnesses reported the cyclist did not have a light and was going excessively fast.
The cyclist sustained severe injuries and was transported to Mercy Medical Center before being transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield. He is listed in fair condition at last check according to a hospital spokesperson.
