The building occupied for years by Charlie’s BBQ in Roseburg is about to be demolished.
On Monday the City of Roseburg issued a demolition permit for the 1700 square foot structure, located in front of the Department of Human Services building, on West Harvard. The building is owned by LLC Investments IX which is in Medford. Justin Hurley Braswell, Chief Operating Officer for Rubicon Investments told News Radio 1240 KQEN that Pence Construction, with offices in Portland, Salem and Bend will oversee the demolition process. He said that is the same contractor that oversaw the building of the DHS facility and the adjacent parking lot.
Pence told KQEN there is no current plan for the future use of the space where Charlie’s was. He said the building is “at the end of its useful life”. He said there are 5 remaining lots in the Harvard West Campus, including the one with the building being demolished.

According to Pence, the owners are in the planning stages with a restauranteur that is looking to locate at the corner of Harvard and Bellows. He said there are two restaurants that are looking to open on one lot at that location. In September, the News Review identified those restaurants as Mountain Mike’s Pizza and Cascades Coffee House.
Pence said the demolition will begin following training being done by the Roseburg Fire Department. Battalion Chief Randy Babbitt said training began on Monday and will continue on Wednesday and Friday. He said fire fighters are training on a number of search and rescue techniques and in other areas. The westbound, right-hand lane of Harvard Avenue will be closed during the training exercises.
