TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT TO CONSIDER NAME CHANGE

October 14, 2019 4:50 a.m.
The Douglas County Transportation District will consider a name change at its meeting Monday.
Board Chair Mike Baker told News Radio 1240 KQEN that many people still confuse the district with being part of county government even though it is now a separate entity. The district took over operations of the transportation program this summer. Douglas County Commissioners began the process when they adopted a final order to form the new district in September of last year.
Baker said some people also believe that the district is responsible for all modes of transportation. He said however that it only handles public transportation. That includes the UTrans bus service and the Dial-a-Ride program.
Baker told KQEN that the proposed new name is “Umpqua Public Transportation District”.
The public hearing to consider the change will begin at 5:30 p.m. Board members will meet at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building on Walnut Street in Roseburg.
