Authorities are still seeking a Roseburg man who fled from police during a chase on Tuesday afternoon.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at approximately 4:00 p.m. a deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation near Lookingglass Road and Highway 99 in the Winston area. The suspect eluded police at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour as he continued through Winston and Dillard on Highway 99. The report said the rider turned onto Kent Creek Road and then drove to the gravel pit near the 700 block.
After dropping the bike, the man took off on foot into an area of timber where he was pursued by police. K-9 Nike responded and tracked the area for around 3.5 hours finding the suspect’s jacket and helmet but not the man.
The suspect has been identified as 33-year old Nicholas Nuzum. He was reported to have been riding a motorcycle matching the description of the one involved in the pursuit. The report said the suspect has done the same thing in year’s past.
The man has been jailed eight times in the past eleven years according to the jail website.
