The United Community Action Network will have its Empty Bowls Project Dinner fundraiser next Monday night October 15th.
UCAN Food Bank Director Sarah McGregor said Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. She said the premise is simple – potters and other crafts people, plus educators and community members work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Attendees can select a bowl and then enjoy a meal of soup and bread. At the end of the evening they can choose to keep the bowl, or donate it back for future years.
McGregor said funds raised locally will support the UCAN Food Bank, which distributes over two million pounds of food annually to over 40-food sites throughout Douglas County. Every month, over 19,000 people receive food through those locations.
Eleven local restaurants and businesses are participating and donating to this year’s dinner. The evening will include art installations by James Thatcher and music from Charley Thompson.
Advance tickets are $25, but they will be available at the door for $30. They can be purchased online at www.ucanfillemptybowls.com or by calling 672-3421.
