Three people were hurt when a vehicle went down an embankment after leaving Interstate Five on Monday night.
A report from Oregon State Police said the accident happened just before 10:30 p.m. just south of the summit of Roberts Mountain. A witness told troopers he saw a vehicle pass him at 70 miles per hour then hit its brakes hard. The witness said the vehicle hit the center barrier then went across both lanes and through the metal guard railing.
The driver said he was traveling at 65 miles per hour when he saw something in the roadway. The driver said he swerved to miss the object and lost control of his vehicle. The driver said as he went through the guardrail, he put his arms in front of his face and he felt the vehicle flipping over and over.
The report said the driver and both passengers were taken to Mercy Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Two of those in the vehicle have been treated and released. Mercy did not have a record of the third person being admitted, according to a hospital spokesperson.
When the trooper arrived, the vehicle was 50 feet down the bank and had damage all over it. The report said all the occupants had been wearing seat belts. About 50 to 60 feet of guard rail was damaged.
